FrancisFrancis Ground Coffee Adapter 1999-2007 Classic machines (pod+ground)

The first and second generation range of FrancisFrancis espresso coffee machines were designed to be used, and get the best results, with the Easy Serving Espresso POD system (E.S.E.)

A ground coffee adapter was available, enabling you to use your own blend of espresso coffee.  However this adapter was different for each generation, each being incompatible with the other.  The first generation of X1 machines had aluminium internals, the second generation had brass internals. Although externally the styling of the machines looked practically identical, there were slight differences; the housing were the coffee handle inserts is a different size, which means that the handles from the first generation (aluminium) are too small for the second generation (brass), and the second generation (brass) are too large for the first generation (aluminium). Thus, two handles were produced by FrancisFrancis to cover both generations.

The brass boiler ground coffee kit comprises of 5 pieces:- the handle, a measuring spoon, a tamper, and 2 measure cups (one for 1 cup, one for 2 cup capacity).
To use the ground coffee holder, simply swap the E.S.E holder for the ground coffee adapter and experiment with your own blend.
The brass boiler kit is still available to purchase.

The aluminium boiler ground coffee kit comprised; handle, 2 measure cups (1 cup and 2 cup capacity) - no measuring spoon or tamper.
Unfortunately illy (FrancisFrancis) no longer produce replacement ground handles for the first generation aluminium X1 machine.

Deciding which FrancisFrancis machine you own
An easy way to check which boiler you have is:
With the FrancisFrancis machine facing you, tilt it back and look at the area where the water comes out, if it's solely silver/metal colour then it's aluminium and if it's brass coloured then it's obviously brass.

The X1, X3, X4 and X5 all use the same brass handle ground coffee holder.
