The Tandberg DLT 8000 maintains full backward compatibility (using the correct cartridge) with all previous DLTtape products. This includes DLTtape drives from Tandberg Data and other manufacturers. To ensure accuracy and data security, the Tandberg DLT 8000 recording head has a average life of 50,000 hours and 250,000 hours MTBF (Mean Time Before Failure).

The Tandberg DLT 8000 utilizes proven linear recording technology which includes a precision tape guidance mechanism and a head design with self cleaning features for reliability, four channel parallel recording and DLZ compression for performance, real time read-while write data verification, CRC, Reed-Solomon ECC for data integrity, TapeAlert™ and enhanced self monitoring diagnostics and to ensure optimum performance and reliability.
